Applying for Coverage

Online filing expedites the application process, and will reduce inputting errors since the information will have been keyed in by you. When you click to send the information, it will be encrypted during transmission.


You may choose from among the following plans. Once you have decided, you may apply online.

  • The Medicare Plan is for Illinois residents who are on Medicare, under 65, and are unable to obtain health insurance due to a pre-existing condition or whose current premiums are higher than CHIP premiums. After January 1, 2006 this program no longer offers prescription drug benefits. Find out more

  • The Traditional Plan is available to Illinois residents who have been denied health insurance due to pre-existing conditions or whose current premiums are higher than CHIP premiums. Find out more

  • The HIPAA Plan is available to Illinois residents who have exhausted continuation coverage (COBRA). Find out more

  • The HCTC Plans are for Illinois residents and/or immediate family members of persons who are between the ages of 55 and 65 and are receiving benefits from the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) or who are Trade Adjustment Act (TAA) certified. TAA certified indicates those who have lost their jobs to companies who have moved out of the country. Find out more
